Everything you need to know about Katica — escrow, pricing, disputes and security.
The buyer pays via Mobile Money. Katica holds the funds — neither the buyer nor the seller can access them during the transaction. Once delivery is confirmed by the buyer, funds are automatically released to the seller. If a dispute is opened, funds remain held until the arbitration decision.
The seller creates the transaction on Katica. They enter the amount, description of the goods or service, and the delivery deadline. They then share the secure payment link with the buyer, who simply pays via Mobile Money.
Create a free account, enter the amount and transaction details, then share the payment link with the buyer. The buyer pays via their Mobile Money operator. Funds are immediately held in escrow and both parties receive a confirmation notification.
If the buyer does not confirm within the agreed deadline at transaction creation, funds are automatically released to the seller after the deadline expires — unless a dispute was opened beforehand. This mechanism protects the seller against unjustified holds.
A transaction can be cancelled by mutual agreement between buyer and seller, as long as the funds have not yet been released. In case of disagreement, either party can open a dispute. Katica never proceeds with a unilateral cancellation without agreement or arbitration decision.
Katica is suitable for any commercial exchange online or in person: phones, computers, clothing, services, freelance work, etc. Strictly prohibited: illegal products, fraudulent services and any activity contrary to applicable laws.
Katica is available in Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Cameroon, Burkina Faso and all countries covered by our partner PawaPay (more than 35 African countries). The list is regularly expanding with new integrations.
Registration and transaction creation are 100% free. Katica charges a single 7% commission on the amount, deducted at fund release to the seller. Example: for a 100,000 FCFA transaction, the seller receives 93,000 FCFA. No hidden fees, no subscription.
Katica does not charge additional withdrawal fees. However, your Mobile Money operator may apply their own reception fees according to their current rates. These operator fees are independent of Katica.
The minimum transaction amount is 500 FCFA. There is no fixed ceiling, but limits may apply depending on your identity verification level (KYC) and your Mobile Money operator's limits.
Via our partner PawaPay, Katica supports MTN MoMo, Orange Money, Wave, Airtel Money, Moov Money, Free Money and other local operators in more than 35 countries. No bank account needed — everything is done from your phone.
Release to your Mobile Money account is generally instant or takes a few minutes depending on your operator. In case of unusual delay, our support team is available at support@katica.app.
Yes, the 7% commission is charged at each fund release to the seller. It is never charged to the buyer. In case of refund following a dispute, no commission is retained — the buyer gets the full amount back.
You can open a dispute at any time after payment, as long as you have not yet confirmed receipt. Once receipt is confirmed, funds are released and it is no longer possible to open a dispute for that transaction.
If the seller does not deliver within the agreed timeframe, the buyer can open a dispute from the app before confirming receipt. Funds remain held in escrow throughout the dispute. Our team reviews the evidence and makes a decision within 48 business hours.
You can submit photos, screenshots of conversations (WhatsApp, SMS), delivery notes, videos or any other relevant document. The clearer and more time-stamped your evidence, the faster and fairer the arbitration will be.
The buyer opens a dispute before confirming receipt. Both parties submit their evidence (photos, messages, documents). Our arbitration team reviews the case and makes a decision within 48 business hours. The decision is final — funds are released to the seller or refunded to the buyer according to the verdict.
The arbitrator's decision is final for standard disputes. However, if you have significant new evidence not submitted during the first arbitration, you can contact our team at support@katica.app within 72 hours of the decision to request a review.
